GDS Uni-Conn Powered Snap-In Vehicle Dock with Left Hand Lock

Delivery time: 5-7 business days -- this is a special order item from RAM Mounts. If we already have it in stock, you can pick it up the same day at RoboCenter Svedala.

A bolt-in, key-lockable vehicle dock for tablets and phones wrapped in an IntelliSkin protective case with the GDS Uni-Conn button adapter installed. Push the device into the cradle to snap it home and start charging; press the release lever to take it out. This is the powered, permanent half of the Uni-Conn family -- built for a tractor, ATV, or UTV cab where a device needs to charge and stay put, not just be held.

How GDS Uni-Conn works

GDS Uni-Conn is RAM's universal snap-in docking system, built around three separate pieces that work together. First, a rugged IntelliSkin protective case (sold separately, one per device model) wraps the tablet or phone and protects it. Second, a small octagon-shaped button adapter -- the actual RAM-GDS-U1U part -- snaps onto the back of that IntelliSkin case before the device is first put into service. Third, that button adapter is what physically docks: it is the part that clicks, locks, or snaps into every Uni-Conn holder, desktop dock, or vehicle dock in the RAM catalog, this product included.

The connection itself is the clever part. Instead of a cable that gets plugged and unplugged dozens of times a day -- wearing out the device's own charging port and collecting dirt and moisture in the process -- the button adapter presents a set of ruggedized pogo-pin contacts. Docking is a single push; undocking is a lever, button, or key-turn away. The device's own port is never touched, so it never wears out from docking and undocking.

The future-proofing is the real payoff. Every IntelliSkin case is built with its button adapter at the same fixed alignment point, so any Uni-Conn-equipped device docks into any Uni-Conn dock, holder, or clip -- regardless of which tablet or phone model it actually is. When a fleet upgrades to a new device, the vehicle dock, the desktop dock, and the belt clip bolted to the wall or the cab do not need to be replaced. Only a new IntelliSkin case (with its own button adapter) is needed for the new device -- the docking infrastructure itself is bought once.

This dock requires the Uni-Conn button adapter

Unlike a passive holder, this dock actively docks and locks the device: the octagon button adapter on the back of the IntelliSkin case is what physically clicks into the dock's cradle and lines up the pogo-pin contacts. The GDS Uni-Conn adapter (RAM-GDS-U1U) must be installed on the intended IntelliSkin case for this to work -- without it, the case has nothing for the dock to grip or charge through.

Frequently asked questions

Does it charge the device while docked?
Yes. Power is delivered through the pogo-pin contacts as soon as the device snaps into place, fed by a USB Type-C cable (215 mm) into the dock at up to 5V-12V @ 3A (15W).

What else do I need to make this work?
An IntelliSkin protective case for your specific tablet or phone model, with a GDS Uni-Conn button adapter (RAM-GDS-U1U) installed on its back. Neither is included with this product. RoboService does not yet stock every device-specific IntelliSkin case in our own webshop -- contact us with your exact device model and we will check compatibility and order the matching case for you.

Does it come with a mounting arm or base for the vehicle?
No. The dock itself bolts to a 2-hole AMPS pattern base or arm using the included hardware -- a separate RAM base or arm (for a roll bar, dash, or console) is needed to actually attach it in the cab. Contact RoboService and we will help specify the right base and arm for your vehicle.

Is it lockable?
Yes -- it includes two keys and a locking lever stop for theft deterrence. Important: the warranty on this dock is void if it is used without the locking lever stop installed, so do not skip that part during setup.

Can I use this in a fully open vehicle, like a forklift?
RAM does not recommend GDS Uni-Conn snap-in docks for fully open-cockpit applications such as forklifts -- an enclosed or partially enclosed cab, like a tractor or UTV, is the intended use. For a fully open cockpit, ask RoboService about RAM's Tough-Dock line instead.

What happens when I upgrade my tablet?
This is the whole point of the system. You only replace the IntelliSkin case (with its own Uni-Conn button adapter) for the new device model -- the dock, holder, or clip bolted into the vehicle, desk, or belt stays exactly where it is and keeps working, because every IntelliSkin case aligns its button adapter to the same fixed docking point.

Is left-hand lock the only version available?
No -- RAM also makes right-hand-lock and non-locking versions of this same dock, plus variants with a USB-A or USB-C peripheral passthrough for a keyboard, scanner, or hub. Contact RoboService and we will order whichever lock orientation and peripheral configuration fits your application.
