RAM X-Grip Phone Mount with RAM Twist-Lock Suction Cup Base

Delivery time: 5-7 business days -- this is a special order item from RAM Mounts. If we already have it in stock, you can pick it up the same day at RoboCenter Svedala.

A windshield or dashboard phone mount built around RAM's spring-loaded X-Grip cradle and a Twist-Lock suction cup base -- no drilling, no adhesive, on or off in seconds.

Why a no-drill mount matters

A car or service vehicle windshield and dashboard are not places you want to put screw holes in, especially on a leased or pool vehicle. RAM's Twist-Lock suction cup creates a genuine vacuum seal against glass or polished plastic, holds the arm rigid while driving, and comes off cleanly with one twist of the locking lever when you need to move it to another vehicle -- a fundamentally different install philosophy from the clamp-and-bolt bases used on RAM's ATV/UTV rail mounts.

Features

  • Spring-loaded X-Grip cradle with rubber-capped arms grips phones and small devices 1.875" - 3.25" wide without hiding the screen; includes an optional device tether for rugged use
  • 3.3" Twist-Lock suction cup base with medium-length B Size double socket arm; ball-and-socket joint allows near-infinite tilt and rotation
  • Made of powder-coated, marine-grade aluminum, stainless steel hardware, and high-strength composite
  • Backed by a lifetime warranty on the mount hardware

How RAM's modular system works

Every RAM mount is built from up to three parts that click together. A base clamps, bolts, or straps onto the vehicle -- a dash, a windshield, a cup holder, or a rail. An arm connects two RAM balls together and can be locked at any angle, so once mounted you can tilt, rotate, and reposition the device freely, then lock it firmly in place by hand. A cradle or holder grips the specific device -- phone, tablet, or drink.

Not every product includes all three parts -- some are just the base, some bundle a holder, some are a complete kit. This page says plainly which parts are included with this particular SKU, so you know exactly what you are getting and what, if anything, you would need to add.

The ball size determines what it can carry

RAM uses five ball sizes, each rated for a different weight and duty class. This product uses B Size -- the ball size used on all six mounts in this line. B Size (part numbers starting RAM-B-...) is RAM's most common size, standard duty -- what RAM recommends for phones, GPS units, and light tablets in normal use. C Size (plain RAM-... part numbers, no letter prefix) is heavy duty, used for larger tablets and anything mounted somewhere that gets a lot of vibration or shock. D and E Size are reserved for large monitors and specialist equipment.

Rule of thumb: if the mount will live somewhere frequently jostled or vibrated -- an off-road vehicle, a gravel road at speed -- RAM recommends stepping up to a larger ball size for extra stability, even if a lighter mount would technically hold the device's weight.

No tools required, on purpose

RAM arms are designed to be tightened by hand only -- there is no official torque spec, because the ball-and-socket joint is meant to be adjustable in the field without a wrench. If hand-tightening does not hold your device firmly, that is usually a sign the ball size is undersized for the device -- sizing up solves it, rather than over-tightening.

Aluminum or composite -- both built for the outdoors

RAM mounts are made from marine-grade aluminum or high-strength composite, depending on the product; both carry a lifetime warranty and similar weight ratings. Aluminum's powder-coat finish handles rough vibration and shock slightly better; composite has no paint to chip and is often preferred in high-corrosion or salt-air environments. Neither choice is worse -- it is a trade-off between finish and environment.

What's in the box

The kit ships complete: the Twist-Lock suction cup base, the medium-length B Size double socket arm, the spring-loaded X-Grip cradle, assembly hardware, an optional safety tether, and a glue tube for reattaching the X-Grip's rubber caps if one ever comes loose.

Frequently asked questions

Does this damage the windshield or dashboard?
No. The Twist-Lock suction cup holds by vacuum against smooth glass or polished, non-porous plastic -- no adhesive, no screws, no marks. Lift the locking lever and it releases cleanly.

How strong is the grip over time and in cold weather?
The suction cup is rated for repeated daily use, but RAM notes that dramatic temperature swings can affect the seal -- if that happens, wiping away condensation and re-engaging the locking lever restores the hold. The rubber itself is a wear item and, like any suction cup, gets more brittle with age and extreme cold, so it is not covered by the lifetime warranty on the mount hardware.

What phone and device sizes fit?
Any phone or small electronic device -- with its case, if used -- between 1.875" and 3.25" wide and up to 0.875" deep. Always measure the device inside its case before ordering.

Is drilling required?
No. This is one of the selling points of a suction-cup base: it clamps onto glass or a smooth dashboard surface by vacuum, with nothing to install permanently.

What surfaces does the suction cup work on?
Smooth, non-porous surfaces only -- windshields and highly polished dashboard plastic. Textured or matte dash surfaces let air in and will not hold a reliable vacuum; use a flat adhesive mounting disc on those surfaces instead.

Can I tilt or reposition the phone once it's mounted?
Yes, freely. The double socket arm loosens and locks by hand at a single knob, so the viewing angle can be changed in seconds without tools.
