RAM X-Grip Universal Holder for 12"-13" Tablets

The larger sibling of RAM's X-Grip cradle - built for 12"-13" tablets and rugged laptops, and just as at home in a tractor cab as it is in a delivery van.

Delivery time: 5-7 business days -- this is a special order item from RAM Mounts. If we already have it in stock, you can pick it up the same day at RoboCenter Svedala.

Larger tablets and 2-in-1 laptops are common in modern precision-farming and fleet-management setups, but most cradles are sized for phones or small tablets. This version of the X-Grip scales the same spring-loaded design up to fit devices like the Microsoft Surface Pro 13" and other large-format tablets, with or without a case.

Features

  • Spring-loaded "X" design with rubber caps grips most 12"-13" tablets firmly, even in a case
  • Quick-release grip knobs on the back let you pull the tablet in and out with one hand
  • Built from powder-coated marine-grade aluminum, stainless steel hardware and high-strength composite
  • Ships with the screws needed to attach a C-size or VESA ball plate to the back - the ball itself is sold separately
  • Backed by RAM's lifetime warranty

How RAM's modular system works

This is the cradle only - the third of RAM's three building blocks. It grips the tablet; you still need a separate ball base that mounts to the vehicle and an arm that connects the two.

Every RAM mount is built from up to three parts that click together: a base that clamps, bolts, or straps onto the vehicle; an arm that connects two RAM balls and locks at any angle by hand, so the device can be tilted, rotated, and repositioned freely; and a cradle that grips the specific device. The same ball-and-socket technology runs through the whole system, so this cradle works with dozens of different arms and bases.

This holder is drilled for a C-size RAM ball plate (for example the RAM Round Plate with Ball - C Size, offered as an add-on) - RAM's heavy-duty size. Given the size and weight of a 12"-13" tablet, and the vibration typical of a work vehicle, C size is the size RAM recommends here; the lighter, more common B size is meant for phones and small tablets, not devices this large.

As with the rest of the range, no tools are required to adjust the finished mount: the double socket arm is tightened by hand, and if the tablet ever feels loose under vibration the fix is to step up the ball size on the arm and base rather than force the knob tighter.

We haven't found a device in FJD's current lineup built around a 12"-13" screen - FJD's own AT2 terminal is a 10-inch screen, which fits our 9"-11" X-Grip holder instead. This larger holder is here for customers running a bigger third-party tablet or 2-in-1 laptop alongside their FJD equipment, for example a Surface Pro 13" used for FieldFusion, mapping, or fleet software.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include the arm and base, or just the cradle?

Just the cradle, plus the screws to attach a C-size ball plate to its back. The ball plate itself and a matching double socket arm are separate - we stock both as add-ons.

Will it fit a Microsoft Surface Pro 13"?

Yes, RAM confirms compatibility with the Surface Pro 13" - though it will not fit with the official Surface keyboard/type cover attached, since that adds too much width to fit the cradle.

Is this the right size for FJD's AT2 terminal?

No - FJD's AT2 auto-steer display is a 10-inch screen, which is sized for our smaller X-Grip holder for 9"-11" tablets instead. This 12"-13" holder is for larger third-party tablets and 2-in-1 laptops used alongside FJD equipment.

Do I need the optional support arms?

Only in two situations: mounting the tablet in portrait orientation (use one, at the bottom edge), or in extreme vibration environments (use both). For normal landscape use the spring-loaded X-arms hold the tablet on their own.

What materials is it made from, and does that matter outdoors?

Powder-coated marine-grade aluminum, stainless steel hardware, and high-strength composite. The aluminum's coating resists the kind of vibration and shock this size of holder typically sees, and none of the materials corrode in normal outdoor use.

How much weight can the arm and base actually carry?

That depends on which arm and base you pair it with, not the cradle itself. Choose a C-size arm and base rated for at least the tablet's weight including its case - our sales team can help match a specific combination if you're unsure.
