RAM Finger-Grip Universal Mount with Twist-Lock Suction Cup Base

Delivery time: 5-7 business days -- this is a special order item from RAM Mounts. If we already have it in stock, you can pick it up the same day at RoboCenter Svedala.

No clamping, no drilling — a 3.3" twist-lock suction base for glass and smooth dash surfaces inside a cab, with the same universal Finger-Grip cradle.

Not every cab has a rail or roll bar within reach of where you want a device — some have a flat windshield or a smooth dash panel instead. This kit swaps the Tough-Claw clamp for a 3.3" twist-lock suction cup base, holding onto glass or non-porous plastic, paired with the same universal Finger-Grip cradle used across RoboService's other RAM kits.

What's included

  • A 3.3″ diameter Twist-Lock suction cup base
  • A medium double-socket B Size arm
  • A universal Finger-Grip cradle with rubber-coated fingers

Features

  • Twist-Lock suction base grips smooth, non-porous surfaces — glass, painted plastic dash panels — without drilling or clamping
  • Also works on RAM's own adhesive mounting disks, for surfaces the suction cup can't grip directly
  • Universal Finger-Grip cradle holds phones, GPS units, and handheld radios with three sets of flexible, rubber-coated fingers
  • Fully removable and repositionable by hand — no residue left on glass when removed correctly
  • Backed by RAM's lifetime warranty (suction cup rubber is a wear item, see FAQ)

A suction mount depends on a clean, smooth, non-porous surface to hold — it is not a substitute for a Tough-Claw clamp on a textured or irregular cab rail. If your mounting spot is a roll bar or grab handle rather than glass or a flat dash panel, see our Tough-Claw kits instead.

How RAM's modular system works

Every RAM mount is built from up to three parts that click together, and the same parts mix and match across RAM's entire catalog:

  • A base — clamps, bolts, or straps onto the vehicle (a rail, a roll bar, a dash, a windshield, or a device's own housing).
  • An arm — connects two RAM balls together. It locks at any angle, so once mounted you can tilt, rotate, and reposition the device freely, then lock it firmly by hand.
  • A cradle or holder — grips the specific device (tablet, phone, GPS unit, handheld radio).

Not every product includes all three parts — some are just the base, some bundle a cradle, some are a complete kit. Further down this page we say plainly which parts this specific kit includes, so you know exactly what you're getting and what, if anything, you'd need to add.

The ball size determines what it can carry. RAM uses five ball sizes, each rated for a different weight and duty class:

  • A Size — rarely used; costs more to make than B Size but carries less. Reserved for small, low-profile items like security cameras where bulk matters more than capacity.
  • B Size (1″ ball) — RAM's most common size, standard duty. This is what RAM recommends for phones, GPS units, and light tablets in normal use.
  • C Size (1.5″ ball) — heavy duty. Used for larger tablets, handheld computers/scanners, CB radios, and anything mounted somewhere that gets a lot of vibration or shock — exactly the case in a tractor, ATV, or UTV cab.
  • D and E Size — reserved for large monitors and specialist/military equipment; rarely needed outside those cases.

This product uses a B Size ball (1″ (25 mm)). This kit carries the same class of light, standard-duty devices as RoboService's other Finger-Grip kits — phones and handheld radios, rated 2 lb standard use / 1 lb heavy-duty use — so it uses the same B Size ball throughout the arm.

Rule of thumb: if the mount will live somewhere that's frequently jostled, vibrated, or under constant load — an off-road vehicle like a tractor, ATV, or UTV — RAM recommends stepping up to the larger C Size ball for extra stability, even if a lighter B Size mount would technically hold the device's weight.

No tools required, on purpose. RAM arms are designed to be tightened by hand only — there's no official torque spec, because the ball-and-socket joint is meant to be adjustable in the field without a wrench. If hand-tightening doesn't hold your device firmly, that's usually a sign the ball size is undersized for the device — sizing up solves it, rather than over-tightening.

Aluminum or composite — both are built for the outdoors. RAM mounts are made from marine-grade aluminum or high-strength composite, interchangeably depending on the part; both carry a lifetime warranty and similar weight ratings. Aluminum's powder-coat finish handles rough vibration and shock slightly better; composite skips the paint entirely, so it has nothing to chip, and is often preferred in high-corrosion or salt-air environments. Neither choice is "worse" — it's a trade-off between finish and environment.

Frequently asked questions

What surfaces does the suction cup work on?
Glass and smooth, non-porous plastic — a windshield or a painted dash panel, for example. It will not hold reliably on textured plastic, fabric, or an uneven surface; for those, use a RAM adhesive mounting disk as a smooth intermediate surface, or one of our clamp-based Tough-Claw kits instead.

What devices does the Finger-Grip cradle fit?
The same universal range as RAM's other Finger-Grip kits: phones (even in a case), handheld GPS units, and two-way radios, within 1.25″–3.5″ width and up to 1.5″ depth.

Is drilling required to install it?
No — the suction base presses on and locks with a twist, no tools or drilling involved. Clean the glass or dash surface thoroughly first for the best hold.

Is the suction cup covered by RAM's lifetime warranty?
The mount hardware is, but RAM explicitly excludes the suction cup's rubber from the lifetime warranty — it's considered a general wear item, since suction rubber naturally degrades with UV exposure and repeated use over years. Replacement suction cups are available separately when needed.

How secure is a suction mount compared to a clamp, on rough ground?
A well-cleaned suction cup on glass holds firmly under normal driving, but a mechanical clamp (like our Tough-Claw kits) is inherently more resistant to being knocked loose on very rough, high-vibration terrain. If your device will live somewhere with constant heavy vibration, a clamp-based mount is the more robust choice — the suction base is best suited to flat glass or dash areas rather than the roughest-riding spots in the cab.
