RAM Finger-Grip Universal Mount with ATV/UTV Rail Base

Delivery time: 5-7 business days -- this is a special order item from RAM Mounts. If we already have it in stock, you can pick it up the same day at RoboCenter Svedala.

A steel strap-and-U-bolt base built for roll bars and rails, with a universal cradle for phones, radios, and handheld electronics.

If your cab has a roll bar, a grab handle, or handlebars rather than a flat surface to mount on, this is the RAM kit built for exactly that: a steel strap clamp plus two U-bolt options, a double-socket arm, and a universal Finger-Grip cradle that holds almost any handheld device from a phone to a two-way radio.

What's included

  • A steel strap clamp base (accommodates most common roll bar sizes)
  • Two U-bolts for smaller-diameter rails and ATV handlebars (0.5″–1″ and 1″–1.25″)
  • A double-socket B Size arm with adjustment points at both ends
  • A universal Finger-Grip cradle with rubber-coated fingers
  • Assembly hardware, including rubber caps and a spacer

Features

  • Steel strap clamp accommodates most common roll bar sizes for a clean installation
  • Included U-bolt hardware also lets you mount on smaller-diameter ATV handlebars
  • Universal Finger-Grip cradle holds a wide range of devices — phones, GPS units, two-way radios — with three sets of flexible, rubber-coated fingers
  • Double-socket arm gives adjustment points at both ends for near-infinite viewing angles
  • Backed by RAM's lifetime warranty

How RAM's modular system works

Every RAM mount is built from up to three parts that click together, and the same parts mix and match across RAM's entire catalog:

  • A base — clamps, bolts, or straps onto the vehicle (a rail, a roll bar, a dash, a windshield, or a device's own housing).
  • An arm — connects two RAM balls together. It locks at any angle, so once mounted you can tilt, rotate, and reposition the device freely, then lock it firmly by hand.
  • A cradle or holder — grips the specific device (tablet, phone, GPS unit, handheld radio).

Not every product includes all three parts — some are just the base, some bundle a cradle, some are a complete kit. Further down this page we say plainly which parts this specific kit includes, so you know exactly what you're getting and what, if anything, you'd need to add.

The ball size determines what it can carry. RAM uses five ball sizes, each rated for a different weight and duty class:

  • A Size — rarely used; costs more to make than B Size but carries less. Reserved for small, low-profile items like security cameras where bulk matters more than capacity.
  • B Size (1″ ball) — RAM's most common size, standard duty. This is what RAM recommends for phones, GPS units, and light tablets in normal use.
  • C Size (1.5″ ball) — heavy duty. Used for larger tablets, handheld computers/scanners, CB radios, and anything mounted somewhere that gets a lot of vibration or shock — exactly the case in a tractor, ATV, or UTV cab.
  • D and E Size — reserved for large monitors and specialist/military equipment; rarely needed outside those cases.

This product uses a B Size ball (1″ (25 mm)). A phone, GPS unit, or handheld two-way radio in a Finger-Grip cradle is a light, standard-duty load — RAM's own weight rating for this kit is 2 lb in standard use and 1 lb in heavy-duty (constant-vibration) use, which is squarely B Size territory.

Rule of thumb: if the mount will live somewhere that's frequently jostled, vibrated, or under constant load — an off-road vehicle like a tractor, ATV, or UTV — RAM recommends stepping up to the larger C Size ball for extra stability, even if a lighter B Size mount would technically hold the device's weight.

No tools required, on purpose. RAM arms are designed to be tightened by hand only — there's no official torque spec, because the ball-and-socket joint is meant to be adjustable in the field without a wrench. If hand-tightening doesn't hold your device firmly, that's usually a sign the ball size is undersized for the device — sizing up solves it, rather than over-tightening.

Aluminum or composite — both are built for the outdoors. RAM mounts are made from marine-grade aluminum or high-strength composite, interchangeably depending on the part; both carry a lifetime warranty and similar weight ratings. Aluminum's powder-coat finish handles rough vibration and shock slightly better; composite skips the paint entirely, so it has nothing to chip, and is often preferred in high-corrosion or salt-air environments. Neither choice is "worse" — it's a trade-off between finish and environment.

Frequently asked questions

Will this fit the roll bar on my UTV cab?
The steel strap clamps most common roll bar sizes from 1.57″ to 3.15″ in diameter. If your rail or handlebar is thinner — down to 0.5″ — use the included U-bolt hardware instead. Measure your bar's outer diameter before ordering if you're unsure which fixing to use.

What devices does the Finger-Grip cradle fit?
It's a universal holder, not sized for one specific device: three sets of rubber-coated fingers grip widths from 1.25″ to 3.5″ and up to 1.5″ deep, so it works for most phones (even in a case), handheld GPS units, and two-way radios like the Midland shown on RAM's own product photos.

Is this a complete kit, or do I need to add anything?
It's complete out of the box: base, arm, and cradle are all included, along with the hardware to fit either the strap clamp or the U-bolts.

Do I need tools to install or adjust it?
Installing the strap clamp uses a screwdriver-driven worm-gear clamp; after that, the arm and cradle are tightened entirely by hand — no tools needed to reposition or remove the device.

How securely does this hold a device on rough ground?
RAM rates the double-socket ball joints for standard and heavy-duty (constant vibration) use at 2 lb and 1 lb respectively — well within a phone or handheld radio's weight. For extra peace of mind in very rough terrain, keep the device in a case that fully engages all four cradle fingers.
